North Metro TAFE welcomes Le Cordon Bleu

Le Cordon Bleu, internationally famed education institution for culinary, hotel and restaurant management, gastronomy, food entrepreneurship and tourism and event management, has announced a new Bachelor of Business (Convention and Event Management) to commence in Perth on 10th July 2017. The Le Cordon Bleu degree will be delivered at North Metropolitan TAFE (WA) in a world-class, purpose-built facility opened in April 2016. The Perth campus is the latest addition to Le Cordon Bleu Australia with schools in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, and 35 institutes worldwide.

Derrick Casey CEO of Le Cordon Bleu Australia commented: “The Bachelor of Business (Convention and Event Management) focuses on creating multi-skilled and strategically-focused managers ready to take the lead in the burgeoning convention and event industry in Australia and overseas.”
The business events sector is currently supporting nearly 200,000 Australian jobs1 and is predicted to generate $16 billion annually by 2020. The Convention and Event Management degree covers such topics as convention and event planning and operations; media management and sponsorship; destination branding and marketing. A three-year degree with two six-month industry placements (Work Integrated Learning) gives students the opportunity to gain practical skills and apply theoretical knowledge in the context of a real industry workplace.

North Metropolitan TAFE Creative Industries & Enterprise Executive Director Michael Juliff said, “North Metropolitan TAFE is delighted to expand and strengthen its partnership with Le Cordon Bleu. As Perth continues to raise its profile as a global city, there is an urgent need for qualified, high calibre convention and event managers in Western Australia. This new course means we are not only catering to state workforce needs, but also providing students with unique opportunities to learn from and work with the best in the world.”

The Le Cordon Bleu degree coincides with extensive industry development. In 2015/16 a study by Business Events Council of Australia found that more than 38 million people attended 430,000 business events across Australia, creating around 193,000 jobs and contributing $24.9 billion to the economy. This expansion ensures Le Cordon Bleu graduates from the convention and event management programme will be supported by increasing job opportunities in a thriving industry.
Concurrently, tourism in Western Australia is already booming with a recorded 29.5 million visitors3 in 2016.

Le Cordon Bleu Perth Institute welcomes the first group of twenty (20) students to Western Australia from United Kingdom, Malaysia, India, China, Japan, Vietnam and Australia. These students take their place in the prestigious Le Cordon degree with local industry expansion ensuring both job opportunities and the program’s success.

Le Cordon Bleu President, Mr André Cointreau said graduates will gain a world-class qualification to open doors to international management careers. “Le Cordon Bleu is meeting industry demand for world-class hospitality management employees. With over 120 years as international culinary and hospitality educators we have a long tradition of excellence. Today with a presence in more than 20 countries and our continued growth within the higher education sector, our teaching reflects the current global hospitality industry, its trends and projected outcomes.”
